The power of righteous prayer (week 4)

Luke Brodersen

Our Goal: To labor in knowing and doing everything Scripture says about prayer.

Bible Verse & Quote on Prayer

“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.” (Proverbs 15:8)

“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” - Alfred Tennyson

Congregational Bible Prayer

A Prayer from Psalm 5:1-12

“Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Through the abundance of your steadfast love,
I will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness; make your way straight before me.”

Bible Prayer Story

“Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” And he went out and followed him. ” (Acts 12:5, 7-9)

Prayer Principal

“Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” (James 5:16)

Prayer for the Nations

Lord, we pray for your Church in Europe, asking that you would give unto your people “the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Christ” (Ephesians 1:17). To this end, we pray for:

Monaco (Prince Albert II)
Father, we praise you for forming the first small group of Monegasque evangelical believers. Multiply your disciples through their faithfulness, we pray.

Montenegro (President Đukanović)
Holy Spirit, independence has brought optimism & hope - we pray Montenegro would know your salvation which bring eternal hope. Provide your people steadfast witness in the face of opposition from Orthodox churches.

Netherlands (Prime Minister Rutte)
Jesus, use the 700,000 immigrant Christians in the Netherlands to integrate into Dutch churches to revive & restore this increasingly secular nation.

Norway (Prime Minister Solberg)
Lord, re-establish the roots of Norway’s rich Christian past by raising up church planters to see many new groups of committed believers formed.

Poland (President Duda)
Father, set yourself above Polish nominal Catholicism, and saturate Poland with Biblical, evangelical churches, as there are fewer here than in Saudi Arabia.

Portugal (President de Sousa)
Holy Spirit, give wisdom, grace, vision, and courage to Portuguese Christians as they strive for unity and combat false teachers and serious divisions among evangelicals in this nominally Catholic nation.

Romania (President Iohannis)
Jesus, saturate Romania with love, holiness, discipleship, and prayer, and remove the nominalism, legalism, hypocrisy, and slander that blinds her churches.

Russia (President Putin)
Lord, counter Russia’s health crisis, racist nationalism, authoritarian rulers, economic instability, evangelical suppression, and oppression from the Orthodox church with the love of Christ in a radical and powerful way.

San Marino (Captains Regent Tomassoni & Santolini)
Father, we pray that the many cultural & nominal Catholics would experience life-changing encounters with Christ. Raise up the first evangelical ministry in San Marino, we pray.

Congregational Personal Prayers

Dear Lord, we pray for our church family at Coquina, that by your grace we would “stand complete and fully assured in all the will of God.” (Colossians 4:12).

Command of Christ

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:25, 33)

Confession for Forgiveness

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Benediction

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
