Fan Into Flame (week 40)

Luke Brodersen

Our Goal: To labor in knowing and doing everything Scripture says about prayer.

Bible Verse & Quote on Prayer

“Fan into flame the gift of God, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1: 6-7)

“If you have Christ, you have all of Christ, and to have all of Christ is to have free access to Christ’s all-sufficient grace.” - Tony Reinke

Congregational Bible Prayer - A Prayer from Psalm 37

“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
Wait for the Lord and keep his way,
The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.”

Prayer for the Nations

Father, we pray for your Church and the 1,324,171,354 people of India (over 4x more than that of the USA) spread out across 37 different States and union territories. You are the Lord of the Harvest, and we trust the salvation of those who have not yet heard of you or trusted you is in your hands; however, we know that this work is ours to share in, so we ask that our prayers, our support of foreign missions, and our own actions to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 19) would be fruitful so that it may be in India as it is in Heaven. To this end, we pray for the nations and people of:

Haryana (Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya)
Population: 25,353,081 (0.20% Christian)
Lord, we pray that you would strengthen and grow your church in this heavily unreached region and improve translation efforts for evangelical purposes.

Himachal Pradesh (Governor Bandaru Dattatreya)
Population: 6,864,602 (0.18% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we pray for the Kangra Valley, Kullu Valley, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts to experience the gospel in this heavily persecuted region.

Jammu and Kashmir (Governor Satya Pal Malik)
Population: 12,541,302 (0.30% Christian)
Jesus, we pray that your freedom, peace, and restoration would rule in this center of conflict between India, Pakistan, and China.

Jharkhand (Governor Draupadi Murmu)
Population: 32,988,134 (4.30% Christian)
Father, we pray for the healthy development of this young, rural state and for evangelical efforts to reach the 32 tribal peoples of this region.

Karnataka (Governor Vajubhai Vala)
Population: 61,130,704 (1.87% Christian)
Lord, strengthen your church here and protect them from ongoing attacks from Hindu militants; use this region to be a blessing throughout all of India.

Kerala (Governor Arif Mohammad Khan)
Population: 33,387,677 (18.38% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we praise you for the high levels of literacy, education, and freedom in this region, and pray that you would use it to advance your Church in India.

Ladakh (Lt. Governor TBA)
Population: 274,289 (0.20% Christian)
Jesus, we pray for wise governance as Ladakh splits from Jammu and Kashmir to become its own Union Territory following longstanding conflict. May your church be a source of healing and reconciliation in this new state.

Lakshadweep (Administrator Mihir Vardhan)
Population: 78,568 (0.49% Christian)
Father, we pray that you would open doors for evangelistic efforts to take root in among the predominantly unreached people of this land of “one hundred thousand islands.”

Madhya Pradesh (Governor Lalji Tandon)
Population: 72,626,809 (0.29% Christian)
Lord, we pray that you would bring to an end opposition toward the gospel and Christianity in this region that has been closed to missions until recently.

Maharashtra (Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari)
Population: 112,372,972 (1.00% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we pray that you would win over hearts and minds among the influential city of Mumbai - India’s economic and cultural center - so that many more across India and the world would see their good works and turn to you.

Manipur (Governor Najma Heptulla)
Population: 2,855,794 (41.29% Christian)
Jesus, we pray that you would strengthen the Christians in this region, that their faith may be fruitful and multiply.

Meghalaya (Governor Tathagata Roy)
Population: 2,964,007 (74.59% Christian)
Father, we praise you for the vast number of Christians in this region, and ask that you would raise up and send godly leadership to keep your church in Meghalaya faithful.

Mizoram (Governor Jagdish Mukhi)
Population: 1,091,014 (87.16% Christian)
Lord, we pray that you would use the vast number of Christians in Mizoram to mightily bless their neighbors and share their faith boldly.

Congregational Personal Prayers

Father, we pray for our Coquina church family, asking that by your grace “the sharing of [their] faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.” (Philemon 1: 6)

Command of Christ

“If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” (Luke 17: 3-4)

Confession for Forgiveness

“You will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” (Psalm 51: 16-17)

Benediction

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 1: 3)
