A view of heaven (week 8)

Luke Brodersen

Our Goal: To labor in knowing and doing everything Scripture says about prayer.

Bible Verse & Quote on Prayer

“You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” (2 Corinthians 1:11)

“Prayer is the answer to every single problem there is, so just give up and believe it.” - Paul Pent

Congregational Bible Prayer

A Prayer from Psalm 108

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

Bible Prayer Story

And Elijah cried to the Lord, “O Lord my God, have you brought calamity even upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by killing her son?” Then he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried to the Lord, “O Lord my God, let this child's life come into him again.” And the Lord listened to the voice of Elijah. And the life of the child came into him again, and he revived. (1 Kings 17:20-22)

Prayer Principal

Prayer breaks the barrier between heaven and earth.

Prayer for the Nations

Lord, we pray for your Church in the Caribbean, that you would encourage them and fill them with “the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Christ” (Ephesians 1:17). To this end, we pray for:

Dominica (President Savarin)
Father, continue to bless evangelical efforts in Dominica. We pray that you would revive nominal Catholics and strengthen Dominican bi-vocational pastors.

Dominican Republic (President Medina)
Holy Spirit, we pray that you would unite the many growing congregations in the DR to create lasting disciples. Awaken this people to your powerful word to break free from the lasting effects of false teaching and Voodoo religion.

Grenada (Governor-General La Grenade)
Jesus, we pray that you would provide work for the citizens of Grenada so that the men of this island can return and provide for their families and be a blessing to your church in Grenada. We pray that this people would find their satisfaction in Christ and not in material things provided by tourism.

Guadeloupe (President Borel-Lincertin)
Lord, we pray that you would bring comfort and unity to these people amid racial tensions and classism as the result of slavery, French colonization, and the occult. Raise Christianity from being a white-washed ritual to a heart-cleansing, transformational work of the Holy Spirit.

Haiti (President Moïse)
Father, continue to rebuild Haiti from the lasting effects of natural disasters and heal her from the damaging remnants of Voodoo, poverty, corruption, genocide, and slavery.

Jamaica (Governor-General Allen)
Holy Spirit, please overcome Jamaica’s gang & drug problems, and send faithful missionaries to her underprivileged lower class.

Martinique (President Marie-Jeanne)
Jesus, destroy slavery’s lasting effects on the economy and society of Martinique. Bring reconciliation and justice, and protect this island from natural disasters that ravage this region.

Montserrat (Premier Romeo)
Lord, give Montserrat a new start after Mount Soufriere’s eruption in the late 1990’s left much of the island uninhabitable. Pave the way for your glory to be proclaimed from Montserrat.

Congregational Personal Prayers

Father, we pray for our Coquina church family, that all the members of this body would “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;” (Colossians 1:10).

Command of Christ

“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”
(Matthew 5:29-30)

Confession for Forgiveness

“Both we and our fathers have sinned;
we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.”
(Psalm 106:6)

“May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.” (Romans 15:33)
