Our Goal: To labor in knowing and doing everything Scripture says about prayer.
Bible Verse & Quote on Prayer
“The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)
“Prayer lays hold of God's plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth.”
- Elisabeth Elliot
Congregational Bible Prayer
A Prayer from Psalm 77
“In the day of my trouble I will seek the Lord;
Whenever my soul refuses to be comforted:
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.
Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is great like our God?
You are the God who works wonders;
you have made known your might among the peoples.
You with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph.
When the waters saw you, O God,
when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
indeed, the deep trembled.
Your way was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints were unseen.
You led your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.”

Prayer for the Nations
Father, we pray for your Church and the peoples of Africa, that by your grace their “love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that [they] may approve what is excellent, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11)
To this end, we pray for the nations and people of:
Ethiopia (President Zewde)
Lord, Ethiopia has a unique cultural heritage, being the home of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church - one of the oldest Christian denominations - was a founding member of the United Nations and serves as the African base for many international organizations. Revitalize your church here, reconnecting Ethiopians to their Christ-following roots, and use Ethiopia as a gospel beacon among the many nations that come here for business and politics.
Gabon (President Ondimba)
Holy Spirit, Gabon is one of the most stable countries in this region, yet over one-third of its population lives in poverty despite the country benefiting financially from being a major oil producer. Give political leaders the grace to see their fellow countrymen and women with the eyes of Christ, and grant them the discernment to work to pull their neighbors out of poverty and give them a place at their table.
Gambia (President Barrow)
Jesus, Gambia, unlike many of its west African neighbors, has enjoyed long spells of stability since gaining independence, however that stability has not translated into prosperity as only a small portion of the land is arable and the rest of the land suffers from poor soil quality. Reveal yourself to Gambians as the Great Provider, meeting both their physical needs in the way that the world around them cannot, and their spiritual needs in a way that no one by you can.
Ghana (President Akufo-Addo)
Father, by your grace Ghana has experienced stability since gaining independence from Britain in 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan nation to break free from colonial rule, and its economy is growing rapidly thanks to its rich natural resources. Grow your church in Ghana and tune the hearts of this people to value you as the greatest treasure.
Guinea (President Condé)
Lord, the 2010 election ushered in civilian rule, but led to violent ethnic clashes as well. The resulting instability has generated suspicion and ethnic tension. In addition, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Liberia and Sierra Leone have strained Guinea's struggling economy. Draw near to Guinea, grant her people peace and guide the decisions of political leaders with your wisdom and grace in order to break the barriers of ethnic tension and economic struggle, revealing yourself as the Prince of Peace.
Guinea-Bissau (President Vaz)
Holy Spirit, once hailed as a potential model for African development, Guinea-Bissau is now plagued by government corruption, military coups, and cocaine trafficking. As one of the poorest countries in the world, Guinea-Bissau has a massive foreign debt and an economy that relies heavily on foreign aid. Raise this nation out of violence, addiction, and brokenness, and draw this people into the throne room of your grace, where there will be no more corruption, no more evil, and everlasting peace.
Ivory Coast (President Ouattara)
Jesus, after decades of stability an armed rebellion in 2002 split the Ivory Coast in two, and since then peace deals alternated with renewed violence. Break the hearts of these people for what breaks yours, and spur them on to love, unity, and good works that the world would see and come to faith in you as a result.
Kenya (President Kenyatta)
Father, Kenya faces the pressing challenges of high unemployment, crime, and poverty, while droughts frequently put millions of people at risk. The Islamist militant Al-Shabab movement, active in Somalia, has also been launching a growing number of attacks in Kenya. We know this isn’t how you created your world to be, and we pray that you would begin the work of reclaiming and redeeming what is yours. Supply your church in Kenya with the strength and endurance to give glory to you through all circumstances with joy and thanksgiving.
Lesotho (King Letsie III)
Lord, over the decades thousands of workers have been forced by the lack of job opportunities to find work at South African mines, and Lesotho has been plagued by AIDS and tuberculosis, causing extremely high mortality rates and low life expectancy. Heal this nation physically and provide the medical assistance that is necessary to address prevalent health issues, and revive the hearts of this predominantly Christianity-professing people that they may truly turn to you and glorify you with their lives and make an impact for the gospel the world over from this small, remote nation.
Congregational Personal Prayers
Father, we pray for the body of Coquina, that by your grace toward each of us you “may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do” (Jeremiah 42:3), giving us the strength and discernment daily to take up our cross and follow you.
Command of Christ
“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)
Confession for Forgiveness
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:7-8)
“The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us, that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his rules, which he commanded our fathers.” (1 Kings 8:57-58)
