Grace is Power (week 37)

Luke Brodersen

Our Goal: To labor in knowing and doing everything Scripture says about prayer.

Bible Verse & Quote on Prayer

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4: 16)

“Grace is not simply leniency when we have sinned. Grace is the enabling gift and power of God not to sin. Grace is power, not just pardon.” - John Piper

Congregational Bible Prayer (recite as a congregation)

A Prayer from First Timothy 1

“I thank him who has given me strength,
Christ Jesus our Lord,
because he judged me faithful,
appointing me to his service.

Though formerly I was dead in my sins,
I received mercy because of God’s great love,
and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me
with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

I received mercy for this reason, that in me
Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience
as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.
To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Prayer for the Nations

Father, we pray for your Church and the 1,433,783,686 people of China (over 4x more than that of the USA) spread out across 34 different Provinces, Autonomous Regions, and Municipalities. You are the Lord of the Harvest, and we trust the salvation of those who have not yet heard of you or looked to you is in your hands; however, we know that this work is ours to share in, so we ask that our prayers, our support of foreign missions, and our own actions to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 19) would be fruitful so that it may be in China as it is in Heaven. To this end, we pray for the nations and people of:

Hainan Province (Secretary Liu Cigui)
Population: 9,257,600 (0.48% Christian)
Lord, we pray that you would translate and record your Scripture into the languages and dialects of the Li people of the Hainan Province, as there are currently no known translations available in their native language.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Chief Executive Carrie Lam)
Population: 7,482,500 (12.00% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we pray that by your working the gospel would move with free course among Hong Kong. Strengthen your church here, and bring many more into the fold of your Kingdom through their witness.

Heilongjiang Province (Secretary Zhang Qingwei)
Population: 38,312,224 (2.15% Christian)
Jesus, we pray for the Heilongjiang believers as they experience rapid growth among their house churches and movements; deepen their faith, increase their knowledge of Scripture, and continue to multiply your church among them.

Hunan Province (Secretary Du Jiahao)
Population: 67,370,000 (0.77% Christian)
Father, we pray that the house church movement in the capital of the Hunan Province would multiply in its influence and spread to other areas where there are no copies of Scripture and no believers to share the gospel.

Jilin Province (Secretary Bayanqolu)
Population: 27,462,297 (2.15% Christian)
Lord, we pray that you would multiply the churches in urban areas to reach the increasing number of rural families moving into Jilin’s cities.

Jiangsu Province (Secretary Lou Qinjian)
Population: 80,400,000 (2.64% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we praise you for making this province into a location where Christians are being trained and Bibles and being printed within China’s borders. Use this province as an instrument of grace to the rest of China’s spiritually dark climate.

Jiangxi Province (Secretary Liu Qi)
Population: 45,200,000 (2.31% Christian)
Jesus, we pray for continued growth in the number of Jiangxi people who commit their lives to you, and for discipleship that leads to multiplication.

Liaoning Province (Secretary Chen Qiufa)
Population: 43,900,000 (2.40% Christian)
Father, we praise you for the significant response to the gospel among Liaoning’s Manchu people, and we pray against the hold of false religion on this province.

Macau Special Administrative Region (Chief Executive Fernando Chui)
Population: 667,400 (7.20% Christian)
Lord, use the unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese culture and heritage in Macau as a foothold for the gospel. Use the Christian roots present in Portuguese culture to impart the gospel to Macau and spark a revival among those who do not yet follow you.

Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongol) Autonomous Region (Secretary Li Jiheng)
Population: 24,706,321 (2.00% Christian)
Holy Spirit, we thank you for the recently translated Old and New Testament for this region, and we pray that your Word would break the Nei Mongol people free from the spiritual powers that separate them from you.

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (Secretary Shi Taifeng)
Population: 6,301,350 (1.17% Christian)
Jesus, we pray for the formation of churches where the people of Ningxia can experience discipleship and the expression of your gospel.
